Facebook Launches Ads in Messenger

Facebook Launches Ads in Messenger

But what does it mean for your business?

Earlier this year Facebook announced that it would be launching ads in Facebook Messenger. The initial tests have already been successfully carried out in Thailand and Australia and will soon be rolled out globally.

As experts social media advertising, we look at what this means for you and your business…

What’s changing?

The new advertisements will now show up on 4-5 of your most recent message screens. Each ad section will be labelled as “sponsored” and can be clicked on to open in Facebook Messenger’s built in browser.

Although this does not sound ideal as a user, Facebook has promised that the ads will not appear in conversations unless the user chooses to click on the ad or start a chat with the brand. In addition, users can hide and report specific ads using the dropdown menu in their Messenger.

What does this mean for businesses?

There is a huge amount of potential for businesses using the Messenger platform as it is a new channel for them to advertise their products and services to customers. Facebook has always been a great marketing channel and this change will help to drive sales, build brand awareness and increase customer satisfaction. With over a billion monthly users, there is huge scope for customers being reached through advertisement in this way.

What now?

During the general release, we anticipate that additional ad units and objectives will become available. We are also assuming that Messenger-specific targeting will be added based on sentiment, topical analysis, or activity.

In addition to these new digital adverts in Messenger, businesses will also be able to use the current Messenger advertising solutions such as:

  • Opening conversations with click-to-Messenger adverts
  • Managing conversations within the versatile Messenger platform
  • Re-engaging those conversations using sponsored messages
