The importance of a Shopify Blog

Maintaining a strong online presence is crucial for your Shopify store’s success. While product listings and a well-optimised website are essential, don’t underestimate the importance of blogging for SEO. In this guide, we’ll explore why having a blog on Shopify is vital, how to set it up, and best practices for leveraging it to boost your search engine rankings.

Why You Need a Blog for SEO on Shopify

A blog serves as an invaluable tool for improving your Shopify store’s SEO in several ways:

  • Answering Customer Questions: Your blog can address common questions and concerns related to your products or services, positioning you as an industry expert and building trust with your audience.

Ranking for related keywords: Let’s say you sell hearing protection products, your main category pages will be targeting the more specific transactional keywords but there will be loads of related keywords that your potential customers will be searching for. This could be the noise levels of certain pieces of machinery or the legal requirement for hearing protection in the workplace.

Proving authority and Expertise: It’s not uncommon for people to contact us wanting to rank for specific keywords, thinking you can just optimise a page and off you go. The truth is Google wants to see a website full of information. The more relevant, high value content you have on your website discussing topics around your products the more likely your product pages will rank higher in Google. You can improve the position of a URL in the search results without touching the content on the page

In links – As with the above if you link from your blog posts to your main collection and product pages that is another signal to Google that these pages are important, you will see them in this post, linking through to our main landing pages

The main reason we use a blog for SEO is as follows. If you have 1000 product pages on your site, that is better for SEO than having 100, if you have 1000 product pages and 1000 blog posts all linking to the product pages and targeting relevant subject matter. You are much more likely to improve your SEO visibility for all keywords you are trying to rank for. We as a business have done this time and time again, not just for Shopify stores but for B2B websites as well.

How to Set Up and Publish Blog Posts on Shopify

Enable the Blog Feature: In your Shopify admin, navigate to “Online Store” and choose “Blog Posts.” Enable the blogging feature and create a new blog. Content Creation: Write informative, engaging, and relevant blog posts tailored to your target audience. Incorporate visuals and multimedia to enhance user experience. A Shopify blog can be difficult to structure properly and you might need help with the design, if so we are more than happy to help get you set up.

Keyword Research: Start with keyword research using tools like Google Keyword Planner or SEMrush. Focus on long-tail keywords that align with your products and audience’s search intent.

Create Content Silos: Organise your blog posts into content silos, grouping related topics together. This helps search engines understand the structure of your content and improves user navigation.

Optimise Titles, headings and Meta Descriptions: Craft compelling titles and meta descriptions, including the target keyword. Make it clear to both users and search engines what each post is about.

Using Google and SEMrush for Content Ideas

Google and tools like SEMrush are goldmines for content inspiration. Conduct searches related to your industry or products and observe the “People also ask” and “Searches related to” sections. SEMrush can provide keyword ideas, search volume, and competition data to refine your content strategy.
